Metcalfe Marriages

The Metcalfe Marriages Database is made up of transcripts of the Official UK Marriage Index from 1837-2000, as well as sources overseas and miscellaneous entries outside these dates. The Metcalfe Society extends our thanks to all those members who have contributed to this database over the years, as well as extending an invitation to current members to add to this project any marriages that are not currently listed.

Important Note: To safeguard the privacy of persons who may still be living no details will be returned for marriages dating within the last 80 years, unless a death notice has been posted for both parties.

Guidance on Searching the Database

To search the database, type your search details into any of the fields, and then click 'Search'. The more details you enter, the less records you will find. If you cannot find what you are looking for, widen your search by typing in fewer fields.

Searching for a female Metcalfe?

Metcalfe's are always listed as the main entry, so female Metcalfe's should be searched for in the 'Forename/s' box.

Searching for a non-Metcalfe female?

Non-Metcalfe females maybe easier to find using 'nee' in the Married box, with their maiden name.

How to Use the 'Wildcard'

Use the wildcard '*' to ensure you get the best possible match from the database. For example, when searching on Forename:

  • Norah will return those records which have Norah AND NO OTHER NAME.
  • Norah* will return records where Norah is the first name followed by ANY OTHER NAME.
  • *Eveline* will return records where Eveline appears as a FIRST OR MIDDLE NAME.
